The client approached QeCAD with the objective of developing a precise 3D BIM model and producing multiple high-quality exterior rendering options for the commercial property at 21 Church Road, Post Wick. The intent was to visualize the design intent, material combinations as well as the architectural detailing accurately before the execution.
The project comprised the following key buildings and features:
Creation of a LOD 300 3D BIM model reflecting the architectural geometry and the design intent
Development of the photorealistic 3D exterior renderings
Accurate application of the façade materials, finishes and color palettes as specified
Visualization of key architectural elements including the roof, doors, windows, cladding and garage frontage
The client provided the detailed material and finish specifications to ensure the visual accuracy, including:
→ Fascia & Soffit: Black
→ Windows: Dark Grey
→ Cladding: Vertical Western Red Cedar boards on gables
→ Render Finish: Off-white color below cedar boards and around the main entrance
→ Roof Tiles: Color to match existing context
→ Front Door: Timber finish matching cladding, featuring a large glazed panel and a horizontal-grain vision panel to the left
→ Garage Doors: Double doors designed to match the front door with horizontal wood grain detailing
Based on a comprehensive understanding of the client’s requirements and material specifications, the QeCAD team initiated the BIM modeling process, followed by the development of the exterior rendering drafts. The focus was on accurately translating the architectural intent into a visually compelling digital model that clearly communicated the proportions, material transitions and façade aesthetics. Multiple rendering views were prepared to support the design validation and stakeholder presentations.
→ Maintaining material realism, especially the texture and grain orientation of Western Red Cedar cladding
→ Ensuring the consistency between the front door and garage doors in terms of wood grain, color and finish
→ Balancing the contextual roof tile colors to align with the existing surroundings while maintaining the design clarity
→ Achieving accurate light, shadow and contrast for off-white render finishes against darker façade elements
→ A detailed LOD 300 BIM model suitable for the design coordination and visualization.
→ High-quality 3D exterior renderings showcasing the realistic materials, finishes and architectural detailing.
→ Clear visual assets enabling the client to review the design intent, finalize material selections and proceed confidently to the next project stage
