For most of such collectives, remote working and it\u2019s nuances have now become a known and accepted way of working.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the wake of a post-pandemic world, the architectural community finds itself at the crossroads of bridging the gap between digital mediums and interactive, physical spaces.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this article, we take a look at one such collective that\u2019s making a strong case for the recognition of distant-working amidst the pandemic and how architecture finds it\u2019s middle ground at the intervals of it all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Founded in 2016 as an architectural design and virtual production studio around Pico Velasquez\u2019 visions and collaborations, <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pii.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><u>PIICO<\/u><\/span><\/a> proudly finds itself at the intersection of architecture, art, creative technology and gaming. In an era where our virtual and physical realities are more interconnected than ever, this architectural firm aims to bring a new spatial dimension that rethinks the future of our built environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2965 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qecad.com\/cadblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/PIICO-5-BLOOM.png\" alt=\"Bloom\u201d, LAB at Rockwell Group with Pico Velasquez\" width=\"3000\" height=\"1634\" \/>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>An insight into the world of PIICO &#8211;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>PIICO<\/strong>\u00a0is a creative practice specializing in the design of buildings, cities and virtual worlds. We began with architecture, then transitioned to multimedia in order to better include digital content and interactivity. Most recently, and in large part accelerated by covid,\u00a0we dove into video games and virtual experiences with the emergence of the meta-verse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The services we provide include architectural design and virtual production, as well as creative consulting for multimedia projects at different scales including\u00a0master planning. For in-house deadlines and client presentations, we prefer in person interactions whenever possible. But each project requires a unique approach, and thankfully the quality of our work has not been affected by having to communicate through these\u00a0virtual settings. In fact, we\u2019ve taken it as a learning opportunity, both to work and to design future work settings that enable the seamless interaction between the two.<\/span>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2970 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qecad.com\/cadblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/PIICO-2-1-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"Pico's home office.\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1428\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Remote working : boon or bane?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The shift to online meetings initially demanded a complete restructuring of our internal communications. Following our adjustments we saw that\u00a0online collaboration was\u00a0more efficient for our team of creatives. We find that today for most conversations, it&#8217;s preferable to have them online and keep them concise. This in turn has allowed individuals the freedom to work in their preferred\u00a0environment and time schedule, yielding more satisfaction and work\/life balance. When the opportunity arises to meet in person, we definitely cherish it, as it\u2019s society\u2019s most common way to build community in the workplace. Soon enough, meeting in shared online virtual environments, like the meta-verse, will bring additional components not possible with physical interactions. It\u2019s quite interesting to be witnessing this transition!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><strong><strong><strong>The tides and shifts of managing a collective vis-a-vis distant working &#8211; Was it easy?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Yes and no. Our main goal was to establish an\u00a0ideal framework with which to manage the\u00a0teams. It required extreme flexibility and constant\u00a0communication to test out different methods.\u00a0Still a work in progress, I believe we\u2019ve\u00a0arrived at a good balance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>When <\/strong><strong>inability<\/strong><strong><strong><strong><strong> turns into an impetus &#8211;<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The inability to travel has allowed us to stay more focused on building\u00a0the product rather than preparing for in-person\u00a0meetings, hence gaining extra time to submit more proposals.\u00a0Nonetheless, this is relevant\u00a0for everyone in the industry; competition has therefore risen.
